About the Speakers:

Dr. Vinaya Gokki: Helping care for her grandfather as a child left a lasting impression on Dr. Vinaya Gokki, and it inspired her to become a physician. “I love having the opportunity to make a difference in people’s lives. Every day, I strive to make my patients feel welcome and address their concerns in a compassionate way,” Dr. Gokki says. “I am also grateful to serve the senior population. Without them, we wouldn’t be where we are today.”

Dr. Anita Pierre-Antoine: Dr. Anita Pierre-Antoine loves learning about her patients, especially “how they see the world and their overall health.” She is appreciative of the mentorship and guidance she has received from the senior population since she was a child, so she is grateful for the opportunity to give back to them. She strives to keep her patients “happy, healthy, and fulfilled.” Dr. Pierre-Antoine likes to remind all her patients “that they are wonderfully and beautifully made.” She consistently reads medical literature to keep up with new advancements.

Dr. Fri Awasum: After learning about healthcare disparities, particularly due to systemic racism, Dr. Fri Awasum was inspired to pursue a career in medicine to have a direct impact on these inequalities. She values communication and transparency in her practice. “I really believe in shared goals and decision making,” Dr. Awasum says. She appreciates the opportunity to serve the senior population and values their wisdom. Seeing the health of her patients improve is one of her favorite parts of her profession. “I love cheering my patients on and celebrating wins,” Dr. Awasum says.

Dr. Shruthi Sambamoorthy: Primary care physician Shruthi Sambamoorthy is board certified in internal medicine. She earned her bachelor’s degree, with honors, from the University of Toronto and her doctorate, summa cum laude, from the American University of Antigua; she completed her residency at the University of Buffalo. “Seniors have the most interesting stories to tell, and working with them is very rewarding,” says Dr. Sambamoorthy. “I try to make a difference in my patients’ lives by promoting a healthy and happy lifestyle, effective communication and practice evidence-based medicine.”
