Maina Gatonye, MD

As Senior Vice President of Clinical Market Operations, Dr. Gatonye oversees Clinical Operations at ChenMed.

Dr. Gatonye joined ChenMed in 2005 and has more than 19 years of experience as a physician and clinical leader in the company. Prior to his current role, he most recently served as Division Chief Medical Officer, where he was responsible for overseeing a large team of physician leaders, ensuring excellent delivery of the core across the Midwest and East Coast. Before that role, he worked in various other roles at ChenMed including Regional Chief Medical Officer, Market Chief Medical Officer, Associate Chief Medical Officer, Medical Director and Primary Care Physician. Dr. Gatonye became Partner at ChenMed in 2007 and Senior Partner in 2008.

Dr. Gatonye joined ChenMed straight out of residency and likes to joke that Dr. Chris Chen interviewed him while working his late-night ER shift during his senior year of Internal Medicine residency.

Dr. Gatonye has a bachelor’s degree in biology from St. Thomas University in Miami, Fla., and obtained his medical degree from Meharry Medical College in Nashville, Tenn. Dr. Gatonye completed his Internal Medicine residency at the University of Miami, in Miami, Fla.

During his free time, Dr. Gatonye enjoys spending time with his family, along with swimming, cycling, and soccer. He is an avid sports fan, and enjoys traveling the world, having visited six of the seven continents, with Antarctia still to come!
